An experiment in social design, PLATFORM is an interactive and functional public art space. a modular concrete system designed to be the basis of collaborations between local artists and their communities. Platform is the seed that grows into an aesthetically pleasing, interactive public space.
Ideation
Researching factors underlying the success or failure of recreational outdoor spaces in urban environments, key factors identified included the importance of public art and material choices that reflect the region’s climate. Concrete was the chosen material, being inexpensive, long-lasting, and adaptable to artistic expression. Working directly with local artists, I developed both the forms on which the project was based. A proof of concept model was created to showcase the possibility for artistic freedom provided by PLATFORM.
User Testing
Local artist Jody Joseph completed user testing on foam models.
Artist Proof of Concept
Local artist Nicole Levaque provided the proof of concept model for PLATFORM, highlighting the possibility for artistic freedom in personalizing PLATFORM.
